Minoxidil is generally safe for both men and women to use, though those with sensitive scalps may prefer to use minoxidil foam rather than minoxidil spray, as the foam formulation doesn’t contain propylene glycol.

Women may also prefer to use minoxidil 2%, as it reduces the risk of unwanted facial or body hair growth.

Dandruff isn’t a cause of hair loss by itself, though the accompanying scalp itchiness can lead to hair breakage if you find yourself scratching your head vigorously. If you have a dry scalp and hair loss, it’s important to find a way to control the dryness and stop itching. Possible treatments include:
